I'm not sure about Canon camera's but on my Nikon D750 there is an image area mode setting which allows you to select FX image area (full frame), 1.2x image area & DX image area. Of course, you are reducing the number of pixels but the D750 is a very good performer in low light to begin with . I was also thinking of buying a Nikon D7200 DX.
